Fox’s Fridge – Hampshire
The first thing to say is that Fox’s Fridge at Lyde Green Farm in the village of Hook in Hampshire no longer exists. That is to say that the milk vending machine is no longer in existence. Thankfully, the county of Hampshire, the village of Hook and Lyde Green Farm all continue to exist. So then why are we talking about this bottle? Because I like it, and this is a website about bottles.
I think you’d agree that the Fox’s Fridge design is one of the smartest of our collection. The grazing cow atop the perfectly proportioned text, neatly separated by the flower’s stem (a cornflower?), is a design of real beauty. Interestingly, most of the bottles in our collection feature a logo beneath the text rather than logo before the text. In this instance, having the logo before the text brings a sense of balanced elegance, I feel.
If you were wondering, the dairy farmers of Lyde Green Farm (the Fox’s, hence the name Fox’s fridge) moved from Hampshire to Wales, herd and all. So, keep an eye out for a resurgent Oergell y llwynog!
