Tamar Valley Dairy Co – Devonshire
In 1904 an ambitious project to construct a railway viaduct using the most up-to-date construction methods began. By 1907 the impressive Calstock viaduct stood one-hundred and twenty feet tall, eight-hundred feet long and with twelve arches. Over eleven-thousand concrete blocks cast locally were used to construct the viaduct.
Fast forward one hundred and thirteen years from the building of the viaduct to the year 2020, the Tamar Valley Dairy Co began offering fresh whole milk produced by a herd of cows who spend their days grazing beneath the viaduct. Edwardian engineering features heavily in this splendid bottle’s design, so it has to be one of my favourites. The milk is delicious, the bottle is perfect, and Calstock is a beautiful place to visit.
